Our Parish

Two churches, one parish.

St Mary’s is one of two churches within the benefice of the Parish of Bury St Edmunds, St Mary with St Peter’s District Church. Both churches have their own disctinct identities and seperate worshipping communties, however the parish often works together in our community engagement groups . The parish benefits from a well-equiped Centre, The Thomas Clarkson Centre, which can be hired. For more information about the parish please visit our parish website.

St Peter’s Church

St Peter’s is an evangelical Anglican Church located in Hospital Road, Bury St Edmunds. St Peter’s has a unique identity as a District Church within the Parish and has have its own full time minister. Their Sunday morning service was attended by approximately 70 people each week before the Coronavirus pandemic. They have about 90 active members.

The Thomas Clarkson Centre

The Thomas Clarkson Centre is the community centre run by St Mary’s and St Peter’s churches which serves the people of our town. We love to see the rooms full of gatherings – lunches and teas for those who may live more isolated lives, classes and groups for children, young people and adults, safe meetings for support for people who have problems with drugs, alcohol or harmful behaviours, training courses and more. It’s a way of making a difference in Bury St Edmunds and something we’re really proud of.

Please contact our events manager to hire a room in the Centre.
